Metz operates his own legal practice, Metz Law Firm, P.A., which specializes in business, construction and personal injury litigation. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1976 to 1982. Metz earned an A.A. and a B.A. from the University of Florida and received his J.D. from Florida State University. He is a trustee of the Marine Corps League, North Lake Detachment, where he is also a member of the color guard. He also provides financial stewardship services for the Lake County Bar Association. His family, including wife Mariko and two children, resides in Yalaha.
