Womble earned his Bachelor of Science from Winston-Salem State University in 1963. He received his Master of Science degree from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro in 1997, and his EdS from Appalachian State University in 1979. He is a retired teacher, principal and university director and department chair. He has one child, Jamaal.
