Stumpf represents Minnesota Senate District 1. District 1 includes the Roseau and Red Lake region next to the North Dakota border[1]. Stumpf began his political experience in 1980 as a representative for the state of Minnesota until 1982, when he began serving the Minnesota state senate as a senator. From 1991 to 1992, Stumpf served as the majority whip within the Minnesota State Senate.
Stumpf earned his Bachelors degree from Saint Paul Seminary in 1966 and his MPA from Syracuse University in 1991. Stumpf has professional experience as a farmer. Stumpf is currently involved with the Civil Air Patrol and Kiwanis.
