Myxter's professional experience includes teaching in the Fargo Public Schools. He earned is BS in Speech/Theater from Minot State University and his MS in Speech/Theater from North Dakota State University. Myxter and his wife, Sue, have five children; Lorel, Lyrae, Lance, Peter, and Erik.
Myxter ran in the 2012 election for North Dakota House District 46. Myxter and Diane R. Hill ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on June 12. He was defeated by incumbents Kathy Hawken and Jim Kasper in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.
Myxter did not seek re-election in 2010 to the House of Representatives. Instead, he ran for election to the State Senate for District 27. He was defeated by Spencer Berry (R) in the general election on November 2.
