Sorenson obtained her Bachelor of Science and M.C. degrees from the University of Delaware.
Before serving as a senator, Sorenson was a representative in the Delaware House of Representatives from 1992 to 1994.
In April 2012, Sorenson announced she would not run for re-election in 2012.[1]

On November 4, 2008, Sorenson won re-election to the Delaware State Senate from Delaware's 6th Senate District. Sorenson defeated John Mackenzie (D). Sorenson received 7,195 votes in the election, whereas Mackenzie only received 6,831 votes.[5] Sorenson raised $69,239 for her campaign in 2008; Mackenzie raised $16,656.[6]
