This measure sought to increase local property taxes by 6.9 mills for two years per $100,000 of assessed property value then increase further to 11 mills. The money will go towards the Lakota school's operations budget and helping fund district programs. The estimated cost was around $900 a year for local residents. Opponents had come out stating that the school district should be more careful with the money they have and spend it more wisely rather than asking residents for more taxes. Proponents noted that with decreased state funds schools receive less so higher taxes are needed to maintain current levels of education and programs offered.
