Lincolnwood School District 74 Bond Measure (March 2012)

This measure sought to issue a bond in the amount of $25 million in order to pay for a new Lincoln Hall school building in the district. A lawsuit had been filed against this measure, stating that the board did not allow for public input into the matter before it was approved to go onto the ballot. Some residents noted that the amount of the bond in excessive and the Hall does not need to be torn down completely and rebuilt. The district board had approved the bonds last year, but public opposition led them to vote again and narrowly add it to the March ballot. School officials noted that if the bond had been approved it would not have increased taxes, just extend the bond repayment currently being paid by residents.[2]
School officials noted that resident's property taxes would not increase if the measure had been approved, though they would likely decrease if it is defeated. At a recent meeting held by the school board, several residents spoke out against the measure again stating their position that the bond would be defeated. While another resident noted that the new school was needed and that the issue was about the welfare of the kids at the schools, not the residents.[3]

| Shall the Board of Education of Lincolnwood School District Number 74, Cook County, Illinois, improve the site of and build and equip a school building to replace the Lincoln Hall Middle School Building and issue bonds of said School District to the amount of $25,000,000 for the purpose of paying the costs thereof? |
