Elam, an attorney by trade, was the Mayor of the City of Mount Juliet for six years before her election to the House. Previously, she served on the city's Regional Planning Commission, as the Vice Mayor of the city, and as a District Commissioner on the Mount Juliet Board of Commissioners.
She holds both a BS in business administration and a JD from the University of Tennessee.
