Hume served in the Indiana State House from 1974 to 1982. He was a Precinct Committeeman from 1968 to 1976. He joined the Indiana State Senate in 1982. He has served in that position since, representing the 48th district.
Hume worked for Siemens Electromechanical Components as Director of Corporate Affairs and Audit from 1961 to 2000. He is currently an Independent Consultant.
Hume went to the Teletronic Technical Institue in 1963 to become an Electric Technician. He earned his BS in Mathematics and Physics from Oakland City University in 1969. He then attended his MBA studies from the University of Evansville.
