This page is a list of Initiative to the People, a type of ballot measure seen in Washington.
Background
In 1912, citizens in Washington approved the right to initiative and referendum by a 71 to 29 percent split.
The first Initiative to the People, advocating the prohibition of alcohol, was filed on January 2, 1914. It was re-filed six days later as Initiative 3, went to the ballot on the November 3, 1914 ballot, and was approved. Six other initiatives also appeared on the ballot that year, but only one relating to the abolition of state employment offices was approved.[1]
Since that beginning, through June of 2012, Washington citizens had filed 1,241 Initiatives to the People. 141 had been on the ballot by 2011, with 72 to of them being approved.[1][2]
