Veto referenda

Three statewide veto referenda have been on the Alaskan ballot since the first one appeared in 1968. Unlike most other states that allow this form of direct democracy, in Alaska a "yes" vote is a vote to overturn the statute that is being challenged.

Legend:

Defeated means that an act of the Alaska State Legislature was overturned.
Approved means that an act of the legislature was ratified.

2000

Defeated Alaska Land-And-Shoot Referendum (2000). 53% of voters voted to nullify the law.

1976

Defeated Alaska Compensation and Retirement Referendum (1976). 80.1% of voters voted to nullify the law.

1968

Approved Alaska Voter Registration Referendum (1968). 51.3% voted to uphold the law.
