Biography

Akiba is an attorney and competitive ballroom dancer. She worked with Cades Schutte Fleming & Wright for 13 years, first as an associate attorney and then partner. She served as director of the Hawai'i Department of Labor and Industrial Relations from 1995 to 2000, and was chair of the Hawaii Democratic Party for three terms. In 2000, she joined McCorriston Miller Mukai MacKinnon LLP as a partner.[2]
