Campaign themes

2014

Blessing's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[1]

Economy

  • Excerpt: "I believe that small businesses truly drive our economy. However, I feel that the incentives to start a small business are too few, while the liabilities of running a small business are too great."

2nd Amendment Rights

  • Excerpt: "I will therefore oppose any legislation that seeks to erode 2nd Amendment rights and am a proud member of the NRA."

Right to Life

  • Excerpt: "I believe that life begins at conception and therefore stand with the Right to Life movement. I will oppose legislation that seeks to eliminate the rights of the unborn. Moreover, I will work to remove public funding for abortion clinics."

Education

  • Excerpt: "Education is a very high priority and I do not believe that massive funding will eliminate the problems with our educational system. In keeping with my pro-free market thinking I propose that education be treated like a business. Poorly performing schools should be closed down in the same sense that poorly performing businesses go bankrupt. With that in mind, I support school vouchers, tuition tax credits, and school choice."

Scorecards

Legislative scorecards are used to evaluate elected public officials based on voting record. Some scorecards are created by political advocacy groups with a focus on specific issues, while others are developed by newspapers and are broad in scope. Scorecards are meant to be used as a tool for voters to have a quick picture of whether their views align with a particular legislator's record.

Because scorecards can be specific to particular issues or general to a state’s legislative term, for example, each report should be considered on its own merits. Each entity that publishes these reports uses different methodologies and definitions for the terms used.

An overview for scorecards in all 50 states can be found on this page. To contribute to the list of Ohio scorecards, email suggestions to scorecards@ballotpedia.org.
