As of 2010, the salary of Louisiana's chief justice ranked 33rd among U.S. chief justices' salaries. The average salary earned by U.S. chief justices was $155,230. The median salary earned by U.S. chief justices was $151,284.
As of 2010, the salaries of Louisiana's associate justices ranked 30th among U.S. associate justices' salaries. The average salary earned by U.S. associate justices was $151,142. The median salary earned by U.S. associate justices was $145,984.
State and local employees
According to 2008 U.S. Census data, the state of Louisiana and local governments in the state employed a total of 314,294 people. Of those employees, 262,442 were full-time employees receiving net pay of $890,536,559 and 51,852 were part-time employees paid $44,960,033. More than 62% of those employees, or 163,332 employees, were in education or higher education.

A flexible benefits plan allows employees to make pre-tax contributions that can go into an account. Depending on the option(s) elected by the employee, the pre-tax money can be used to reimburse the employee for expenses related either to health care or to dependent care expenses. Under the Premium Conversion option, the employee's eligible insurance payroll deductions are made prior to the calculation of taxes.
