On November 4, 2008, Mears won election by finishing second for the four-seat Coos District 4 of the New Hampshire House of Representatives receiving 3,038 votes behind Democrat Robert Theberge (3,283) and ahead of Democrats Paul Ingersoll (2,879) and Yvonne Thomas (2,803), Republican Nathan Morin (1,455), write-in Weeks (306), and "Others" (26).[1]
