Professional experience
Immediately after graduating from college, Susan Savage served as a Pre-trial Representative for the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas for one year starting in 1974. She returned to Oklahoma in 1975 where took the job as Criminal Justice Planner for Montgomery County until 1977. For a decade she operated as executive director of the Metropolitan Tulsa Citizens Crime Commission, a non-profit organization whose mission is to improve the safety and security of the citizens of Tulsa and the surrounding area through its three directives of public education, awareness and involvement, beginning in 1977. Before being appointed Secretary of State, Savage was a faculty member at the University of Oklahoma College of Architecture from 2002 to 2003.
Political career
M. Susan Savage served as Chief of Staff for Tulsa Mayor Roger Randle's Office for four years beginning in 1988. She was appointed as Mayor Pro Tempore after Roger Randle vacated the position after accepting the position as President of the University Center at Tulsa in 1992 and was officially elected to the office in a special election held that same year, marking her as the first woman in the city's history to hold that office.
