Schneider ran in the 2012 election for North Dakota Senate District 42. Schneider ran unopposed in the Democratic primary on June 12. He defeated Ross Lien in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[2]

On November 4, 2008, Schneider was elected to the 44th District Seat in the North Dakota State Senate, besting Nate Martindale (R). [3] Schneider raised $16,175 for his campaign, while Weible raised $14,775. [4]
