Two Madison School District Property Tax Increase measures were on the April 20, 2010 ballot in the Madison school district which is in Morris County.

Both of these measures failed
Measure 1

  • YES 1,486
  • NO 1,505 Defeatedd

Measure 2

  • YES 1,231
  • NO 1,740 Defeatedd[1]

The first property tax increase sought to raise local property taxes by 6.9 cents per $100 of assessed property value and would have gone towards the increased school district budget.

The second increase would have been a further .95 cents, making the total increase 7.85 cents per $100 of assessed value and this money would go towards paying for the junior high sports program.

While the two taxes would have helped supplement the proposed budget and program, the district still expected to make cuts to other school programs and teaching positions. Large cuts at the state level have led to the large decrease in school money.[2]
