The Maine Citizenship Qualifications for Governor Amendment was on the September 12, 1955 ballot in Maine as a legislatively-referred constitutional amendment to the Maine Constitution. It was approved, becoming the 79th amendment to the Maine Constitution.
  • In favor: 15,157 (51.2%) Approveda
  • Opposed: 14,452 (48.8%)

The amendment was placed on the ballot by the Maine State Legislature.

The question on the ballot was "Resolve, Proposing an Amendment to the Constitution to Change the Qualifications of Citizenship of the Governor. (Shall the Constitution be Amended as Proposed by a Resolution of the Legislature to Change the Qualifications of Citizenship of the Governor?)"

Section 4, Part First, of Article IV of the Maine Constitution was amended thereby.
