The Maine Mortgage Loan Guarantee Amendment was on the 1989 ballot in Maine, where it was defeated.

The amendment was legislatively-referred to the ballot by the Maine Legislature as a proposed addition to the Maine Constitution.

The goal of the unsuccessful amendment was to change the Constitution to insure the payment of mortgage loans for affordable housing for Maine citizens, not to exceed $25,000,000 in the aggregate.

  • Yes: 112,090
  • No: 115,232

One year later, Maine voters rejected a somewhat similar measure, the Maine Housing Loan Repayment Guarantee (1990).
