Issues

Campaign themes

Boyd's website highlights the following campaign themes:[1]

Community development

  • Excerpt:"Do the dollars we spend in these establishments help pay a decent wage to local residents who work there? Does the owner live in the community? Does the store's profit return to the district in the form of locally-purchased supplies and services? Does the presence of the store make the corner safer? We will be able to answer “yes” to these questions when the community takes back control of the development process. Communities that have experienced positive development are led by representatives who understand that true community development depends on strong businesses that create good jobs and provide quality services to the community."

Quality education

  • Excerpt:"There is nothing more fundamental to the well-being of our communities than a quality education. Yet every year the state legislature fails to provide our school district with its fair share of funding, fails to find a stable source of revenue for our schools and fails to see education as anything more than a political bargaining chip in budget negotiations. They are failing our schools, and in turn, failing our children."
