Dayton was the Legislative Vice-Chair for the Republican Party from 1993 to 1996. She was appointed to the Utah State House of Representatives in 1996 and served in that position until 2006. From 2000 to 2002 she worked for the Utah Association of Inter-Government Relations. In 2007 she joined the Utah State Senate. She currently represents the 15th district.
Dayton is the Co-Owner of Dayton Ranches. She worked as a surgical and obstetrical nurse from 1972 to 1977. She is currently a homemaker.
Dayton earned her BS in Nursing from Brigham Young University in 1972.
