Biography
Nakashima's professional experience includes working as a UniServ Director in Hilo for the Hawaii State Teachers Association from 2005-2008, and in West Hawaii from 1998-2005, as well as a Governance Specialist for the Hawaii State Teachers Association from 1995-1998, and Legislative Specialist from 1993-1994.[1]

On November 4, 2008, Nakashima won election to the Hawaii House of Representatives from Hawaii's 1st District, defeating Steven Offenbaker (R). Nakashima received 5,801 votes in the election while Offenbaker received 2,360 votes.[4] Nakashima raised $37,441 for his campaign; Offenbaker raised $8,116.[5]
