Alston was running in the 2012 election for Illinois State Senate District 15. Alston was to face off against Patricia Mahon, Joseph Letke, Jr., Donna Miller and Napoleon Harris in the Democratic primary on March 20, 2012, but was removed from the ballot on January 12, 2012.[1] Incumbent James Meeks (D) is not running for re-election. No candidate has declared for the Republican ticket. The general election took place on November 6, 2012.[2][3]
