The state of Maryland borders Virginia, West Virginia, Washington D.C., Pennsylvania, Delaware and the Atlantic Ocean. It is nicknamed the "Old Line State" and was admitted to the U.S. in 1788.

The Maryland Constitution is the basic governing document of the state. Maryland has two members of the U.S. Senate, a total of eight members of the U.S. House of Representatives, 151 members of the House of Delegates and 47 members of the State Senate.

Judgepedia presents the State of Maryland

The structure of the Maryland judicial system is laid out in Article IV of the state constitution. The state court system is made up of the Maryland Court of Appeals, the Maryland Court of Special Appeals, the Maryland Circuit Courts, the Maryland District Courts and the Maryland Orphans' Court.


The federal court system is made up of the District Court of Maryland and the District of Maryland Bankruptcy Court. Appeals from these courts go to the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
