Massachusetts Question 1 (2000)
From Ballotpedia
Massachusett's Question 1 (2000) was a legislatively referred initiative that appeared on the ballot in 2000 to amend the Massachusetts Constitution to require that the periodic redrawing of district boundaries for state legislators and governor's councillors use new census data for the election held two years after the federal census, rather than waiting the four years mandated by the existing law.

Supporters
The initiative was supported by Rep. Thomas M. Petrolati, Assistant Majority Whip and chairman of the House Committee on Redistricting. He argued that the proposed law would insure equal representation for every citizen of Massachusetts and would avoid needless delays in using the most recent census figures for determining districts for state legislators and executive councilors.
Opponents
There was no organized opposition for the initiative.
Status
The initiative passed with 1,776,278 votes in favor of the new amendment and 742,768 votes against it.
