BOSTON, Massachusetts: Massachusetts state Senator Steven Tolman (D) resigned from office this week to become the president of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO.[1]

Massachusetts Secretary of State William Galvin (D) has called a special election for January 10, 2012. A primary will be held on December 13, 2011.[1]

Tolman was first elected to the Senate in 1998. He was also a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1994-1998.
