Math and science education bill moves to House floor

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah: A proposed $15 million bill focused on increasing education funding, specifically for science and math, advanced through the House Economic Development and Workforce Services Committee to the House floor. The bill unanimously passed the committee after stalling last week.
Representative Val Peterson (R) told the committee that the bill was necessary in order to keep Utah competitive with a workforce that relies on workers with strong backgrounds in math and science. He said, "Companies, if they can’t get a qualified workforce, will start to look elsewhere. It’s starting to happen in our state. The key to our economy is business and industry and business and industry is here at the table helping support this bill and they want to be a partner."
