Biography
Goetten was raised in Carrollton in Greene County, Illinois. [2] He attended St. John’s Elementary and Carrollton High School. [2] He graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology. He later earned his Master’s Degree in labor relations. [2] Goetten received his law degree from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. [2]

Goetten ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House, representing Illinois' 13th District. Goetten was defeated in the March 20 Democratic primary by David Gill.[3][4]
Frank Metzger and candidate Michael Firsching were defeated by incumbent Timothy Johnson in the Republican primary on March 20, 2012. [1] The Democratic primary between candidates David Gill and Goetten was incredibly close, and in the end Gill narrowly beat out Goetten.[1]
