Smith earned his BA in History from Rollins College in 1995. He went on to receive his JD from Duquesne University in 1999.
Smith has worked as an attorney since he received his law degree. He has also worked as Pro Bono Coordinator for Babst, Calland, Clements and Zomnir, Professional Corporation.
Smith was a volunteer in state, local, and national campaigns from 1996 to 2004. In 2003, Smith worked for the Transition Team for Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato. He joined the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 2007 and has served in that position since. He represents the 42nd District.
