Meier served as an Army Air Defense Artillery Officer in 1990 and transferred in 1994 to Military Intelligence, serving in both Fort Hood, Texas and Seoul, South Korea. She is also a member of the Reserves.
Meier graduated from the University of Kansas in 1989 with a degree in Economics. She then went on to earn her Masters in Management from Troy State University 1998.
