Biography
Schopp was raised in Greeley, Colorado, and taught for 23 years in Lemmon, South Dakota.[2] She worked for the state Department of Education for 11 years before she was named as interim South Dakota Secretary of Education in 2010.[3]

Schopp has served as secretary since Gov. Dennis Daugaard took office in January of 2011, and was formally appointed to the position on April 7, 2011.[4]

Schopp is eligible to run for re-election as South Dakota Secretary of Education in 2014. She has not yet made her intentions in the race known.
2010
Schopp was appointed as interim South Dakota Secretary of Education in December 2010 by then Gov.-elect Dennis Daugaard. She was serving as deputy secretary at the time. Schopp stated, “I am making no assumptions at this point as to what will happen after. I am serving at the pleasure of the governor-elect at this point and would be honored to serve in the permanent role going forward.”[3]

Schopp and her husband, Arnie, have two children and live in Meadow, SD.
