Bartz ran for re-election to the Iowa State Senate in 2012. Due to redistricting he ran in district 26. Bartz ran unopposed in the Republican primary on June 5, 2012 and was defeated by District 8 incumbent Mary Jo Wilhelm in the general election on November 6, 2012.[1][2]
