Merton Dierks (b. 1932) is a former member of the Nebraska State Senate, representing District 40 from 1986 to 1998, and from 2006 to 2010.

Dierks served on the Ewing Board of Education from 1969 to 1984 and from 2004 to 2006.[1]


Dierks earned his B.S. in Agriculture from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln in 1954 and his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Kansas State University in 1961. His professional experience includes working as a rancher, as veterinarian of the O'Neill Veterinary Clinic from 1973 to 1992 and as the owner of and veterinarian within the Ewing Veterinary Practice from 1961 to 1973. Dierks served in the United States Air Force in Korea for two years, beginning in 1954, as 1st Lieutenant.[1]

Dierks came in second in the primary, bested by Tyson Larsen by a margin of 3,002-2,769. Dierks was defeated by Larsen in the November 2, 2010, general election.[2]

On November 7, 2006, Dierks won election to the 40th District Seat in the Nebraska Senate, defeating Tom Noecker.[3]

He was previously involved with the American Legion, the United States Animal Health Association-Brucellosis Committee, Saint Anthony's Hospital, Ewing School Board, Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association, Ewing Commercial Club, American Quarterhorse Association, Nebraska Stockgrowers Association and the O'Neil Chamber of Commerce.[1]
