Miami-Dade County Charter Amendments, 3 (August 2010)
Two of the three amendments were approved
The first proposed amendment sought to eliminate the county manager position which does not hold much real power in the county since the voters allowed for a county mayor to be formed which runs the business.
The second proposed amendment sought to allow the county commission the ability to dissolve municipalities which have fewer than 20 voters in them.
The third proposed amendment sought to make it so that there would not be a need for voter approval of county franchise agreements which are decided on by the commission.
- YES 57,227 (33.31%)
- NO 114,567 (66.69%)
With this result, the county manager position will officially be dissolved in 2012 when the current officer leaves office. Also, the municipality of Islandia will be dissolved with the result of the second amendment. County officials point out that no paperwork has been filed by the area in years and exists only on paper.
