Michael Bowie recall, Lisbon, Maine (2011)
A vote on whether to recall Michael Bowie from his position as Chairman of the Lisbon Town Council in Lisbon, Maine took place on Tuesday, January 4, 2011. Bowie was retained in his seat. Although more voters wanted to recall Bowie than wanted to keep him, an absolute number of 608 votes must be cast in order for a recall election to be deemed operative.
Reasons for recall
The official recall petition stated that Bowie had violated the Lisbon town charter in four ways: by denying town councilors the right to place items on the agenda, by not consulting with all town councilors when dealing with the town manager, by having improper influence and/or conflict of interest regarding use of town funds, and with failure to properly preside over a town council meeting.
