Michael Cathey was a 2013 candidate for District 11 of the Mississippi House of Representatives. Special election candidates in Mississippi run without party labels.[1]

He was a 2011 Democratic candidate for District 10 of the Mississippi State Senate, when he lost in the primary election to Steve Hale.

Cathey is an Alderman and the Vice Mayor of Senatobia. He was previously the Director of Elections in the Mississippi Secretary of State's office and an owner of a Subway restaurant franchise.


Cathey earned his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Mississippi.[2]

Cathey ran in the special election for Mississippi House of Representatives District 11. The seat was vacant following Joe Gardner's death on February 4. Cathey filed to run but did not appear on the special election ballot.[3][1]

Cathey ran in the 2011 election for Mississippi Senate District 10. He lost to Steve Hale in the primary on August 2, 2011. Vann Branch ran unopposed in the Republican primary. The general election took place on November 8, 2011.[4]
