Michael Gillespie was a 2012 Democratic candidate who sought election to the U.S. Senate from Hawaii. Gillespie was defeated by Mazie Hirono in the Democratic primary on August 11, 2012.[1]

Gillespie ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. Senate, representing Hawaii. Gillespie sought the nomination on the Democratic ticket.[2] Gillespie ran against Ed Case , Antonio Gimbernat, Mazie Hirono, Arturo Reyes, and Steve Tataii in the Democratic primary. Gillespie was defeated by Mazie Hirono in the Democratic primary on August 11, 2012.[1] Candidates John Carroll, Charles Collins, John Roco, Linda Lingle, and Eddie Pirkowski ran in the Republican primary. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run was June 5, 2012. The primary elections were held on August 11, 2012.
