Michael E. Gronstal (b. January 29, 1950) is a Democratic member of the Iowa Senate, representing District 50. He currently serves as the Senate Majority Leader.
Gronstal was first elected to the Iowa Senate in 1984. He previously served on the Iowa House of Representatives. He also chaired the Pottawattamie County Democratic Party from 1986-1988, and serves on the Iowa Democratic Party State Central Committee.
Education
Gronstal attended Loyola University. He went on to receive his BA from Antioch College.
Political experience
Gronstal served in the Iowa State House of Representatives from 1982 to 1984. He was also at the Democratic Party State Central Committee. He was Chair of the Pottawattamie County Democratic Party from 1986 to 1988. He then joined the Iowa State Senate in 1984 and has served in that position since. He has been Senate Democratic Leader since 1997 and Senate Majority Leader since 2006. He represents the 50th district.
