Kerner ran in the 2012 election for Kansas House of Representatives District 17. Kerner was defeated by Brett Hildabrand (R) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[1][2]

Kerner's opponents in the November 2 general election were Democratic candidate Bryan Cox and Republican candidate Kelly Meigs. According to official results, Meigs defeated Kerner and Cox with 5,647 votes; Cox received 2,962 votes and Kerner received 345.[3]
