Marcotte has served as a Selectman for the Town of Coventry since 1992. He has also been the Chair of the Coventry Selectboard since 1998.
Marcotte was a Service Manager for Cray Oil Company from 1980 to 1982. He then worked for M and R Enterprises as a Gas Pump Attendant from 1982 to 1983. From 1983 to 1992, he was the owner of Jimmy Kwik Store. He has been the President of Michael Marcotte Incorporated since 1992.
Marcotte attended Sacred Heart High School in 1977. He then attended the Rhode Island Trade Shop School in 1978.

Marcotte won re-election in the 2012 election for Vermont House of Representatives Orleans 2. Marcotte was unopposed in the August 28 Republican primary and won re-election in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[1][2]
2010
Marcotte ran for re-election to the Orleans 2 District in 2010. He and Duncan Kilmartin (R) won re-election in the general election on November 2, 2010.[3]
