Michael Mills is the president of PR 1776, a small local business that provides corporations, non-profits and individual brands with full communications capabilities. On August 4, 2009, he filed papers to launch his candidacy for the statewide office of secretary of state, the seat currently occupied by Republican Brian Kemp, who had been appointed to the position following the resignation of gubernatorial candidate Karen Handel.[1] A little under a year later, Mills went on to place fourth in the July 20, 2010 Democratic primary with a little under fifteen percent of the vote and failed to qualify for the runoff contest.[2]

Political career

After receiving his master's degree, Mills served as a legislative aide to former Secretary of State Lewis Massey. He later worked as press secretary to Mark Taylor during his successful 1998 lieutenant gubernatorial campaign.
