On November 4, 2008, Vasilinda won election to the Florida House of Representatives from Florida's 9th District, defeating Peter Boulware (R) and John Shaw (NPA). Vasilinda received 41,362 votes in the election while Boulware received 40,932 votes, and Shaw received 2,808 votes.[5] Vasilinda raised $198,198 for her campaign; Boulware raised $566,388, and Shaw raised $2,585.[6]
