Proposal B would have increased the state's sales tax from 4 cents to 6 cents, reduced school property taxes, set permanent school operating millages subject to voter renewal, and dedicated funds for local schools.
Michigan Sales Tax Amendment, Proposal A (1989) was on the same ballot; it, too, was defeated.

Four years later, another sales tax increase proposition, Proposal A, 1993, was on the ballot. It, too, was defeated.
