Fortner is a Professor at Northern Illinois University, and a Researcher at Fermilab National Laboratory.
He is a member of the Education Reform Task Force, Metropolitan Mayors' Caucus, Director of Transportation Policy with the DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference, and Co-Chair of the STAR Line Commuter Rail Task Force.[1]
