Minnesota Legislature approves liquor license for the Capitol Jun 13, 2013

Minnesota

By Axel Spaeh

St. Paul, Minnesota: As the Minnesota State Legislature brought its legislative session to a close, it passed a bill with a provision directing the City of St. Paul to issue an on-sale wine and malt liquor license to the Capitol cafeteria. The basement cafeteria in the Capitol is a German-style rathskeller cafe that was restored to its original design in 2000. The cafeteria's painted ceiling contains a slogan, written in German, urging visitors to enjoy an alcoholic beverage.[1]

The provision was part of a larger bill distributing sales tax money from the state's so-called Legacy amendment to parks and to arts and cultural programs.[1] The bill was signed into law by Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton on May 23, 2013.[2]
