The Minnesota Legislator Compensation Council Amendment did not appear on the November 2012 ballot in Minnesota as a legislatively-referred constitutional amendment. The proposed amendment would have given control of legislator salaries to a salary authorization council, appointed by the Governor and Supreme Court.[1]

The question would have been presented to voters as follows:[1]

"Shall the Minnesota Constitution be amended to provide that salary for legislators will be prescribed by a compensation council instead of by the legislature?"

Constitutional Changes

The proposed amendment would have amended Section 9 to Article IV to the Minnesota Constitution.[1]

In order to refer proposed amendments to the ballot they must be agreed on by a majority of the members of each chamber of the Minnesota State Legislature. The 2012 legislative session ended before the measure was passed on to the ballot.
