September 23, 2009
JACKSON, Mississippi: Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann announced this week that the Mississippi Voter Identification Petition is likely to appear on the Mississippi ballot, not for 2010 but for 2011. With just over a week to collect a total of 90,000 valid signatures, Hosemann said it's unlikely petition supporters will make the deadline for the November 2010 ballot. However, if initiative supporters miss the October deadline then signatures may be submitted by February 2010 for the November 2011 ballot.[1] A total of 35,000 signatures have already been verified by the state.[2]
