Missouri Secretary of State approves four citizen initiatives for circulation

SPRINGFIELD, Missouri: Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan approved four proposed initiatives for petition circulation for the 2012 ballot on Monday, December 13.[1]
One initiative calls for providing a 60% state income tax credit for contributions to charitable and educational not-for-profits. The initiative was proposed by Herman Kriegshauser of Chesterfield, Missouri. On the other hand, three initiatives relate to eminent domain. All three proposals were filed by Ron Calzone of Missouri Citizens for Property Rights.[2]
The eminent domain proposals are similar to a 2010 effort, also proposed by Calzone, that did not appear on the ballot. The measure was tied up in court after various lawsuits were filed. No signatures, according to state officials, were filed by the petition drive deadline on May 2, 2010.
To qualify for the 2012 ballot, each initiative required signatures from registered voters equal to 8% of the total votes cast in the 2008 governor's election from six of the state's nine congressional districts. Signatures on behalf of all initiative petitions for the 2012 ballot are due to the secretary of state’s office by no later than 5 p.m. on May 6, 2012.
