February DAY, YEAR

By Name

Carson City, Missouri: Representative Mike Leara (R) introduced a bill on February 18 that would make "propos[ing] a piece of legislation that further restricts the right of an individual to bear arms, as set forth under the second amendment of the Constitution of the United States" a Class D Felony. Leara already admits, however, that he does not expect this piece of legislation to pass. Instead, he asserted that he "filed HB 633 as a matter of principle and as a statement in defense of the Second Amendment rights of all Missourians."[1] Leara faces opposition within his party, with fellow Representative Ryan Silvey (R) tweeting that Leara's bill "Highlights the problem with proposing bills to get attention."[2]
